Extend your water supply while boondocking

With solar panels and perhaps a wind generator, conservative boondockers never have to replenish fuel for the generator. But unless they can tap into a stream or other water supply, all boondockers need to refill the water tank periodically. Read how two fulltimers with a fifth-wheel have made that task much more efficient. Click here.

Motorhome conversion cuts fuel costs

Imagine fulltiming in a diesel-powered motorhome whose fuel costs a fraction of what most people pay at the pump. Some fulltimers are doing it. Read about a motorhome with both engine and generator converted to operate on vegetable oil and view a video of a family RV trip in such an RV. Click here.

Life in the slow lane getting easier for RVers

Do you, like many fulltimers, drive at a reduced speed from one destination to another to save fuel? Although that practice is economically and ecologically sound, it’s controversial because some drivers think it’s inconsiderate and unsafe. But there’s some good news for slower RV drivers. Read blogger Bess McBride’s interesting musings on this subject. Click here.

Add this useful hooking system to your RV

Hooks are useful in every fulltimer’s rig for a variety of purposes. In fact, we never seem to have enough of them. Here is another clever idea for incorporating hooks into your RV. Click here.

Wind turbine

Has anyone ever come across a coach with a small, about 200W, wind turbine setup? It seems to me that would be easy to rig on a telescopic pole, and along with about 200W solar should help out while dry camping.

Frugal RVing? Tell us how

This section “Frugal RVing” could be a very helpful section. I always check to see if anyone has a good idea on saving and making things work better and more economical. Saving and avoiding excess expense is very important to working as well as retired RVers. Hopefully readers will take a start commenting more on the varying subjects related to this section.

What affects MPG the most?

I’m driving from TX to MD this summer and trying to determine if I should leave my TOAD at home to save some $$$$$. Bottom Line: What affects the MPG the most? I’ve heard wind and hills are the big killers for MPG. Towing a TOAD doesn’t affect MPG that much. I have a 36′ Class A gas engine. Of course this all depends on your driving style but in determining whether or not to bring the TOAD, that would be insignificant; same driving style for either option…same driver. In my trip this summer, I will only “really” need an extra vehicle for about 3 days and would consider renting instead of the TOAD. What are your thoughts on this?

Everything in this newsletter is true to the best of our knowledge. But we occasionally get something wrong. We’re just human! So don’t go spending $10,000 on something we said was good just because we said so, or fixing something like we suggested (check with your own technician first). Maybe we made a mistake. So be sure to check things out. At RVbookstore.com we strive for excellence in all we do and that’s the honest truth (as opposed to the dishonest truth). Our customers receive really, really fast service. We move so fast in sending out a customer’s order that sometimes we pass through the sound barrier, which really upsets our neighbors.
