Selecting a home baseEssential for Fulltimers!

2008 Selecting An RV Home Base

Fulltiming doesn’t mean a change in cooking habits

You might think that living fulltime in an RV would force the occupants to adjust their cooking habits. After all, some high-end motorhomes don’t even have ovens these days. But comments on a fulltimers’ forum indicate otherwise. Read a sample of the comments.

Step into yesteryear aboard this motorhome

While most fulltimers are buying and operating modern RVs with the latest styling and decor, a small group is devoting time, money and creativity in the other direction. The result is real class and a fascinating return to yesteryear. Take a look.

RV on private land

I would like to RV full time, except park most of the time on my own land. I would have one home (RV) but more than one private location. The summer property is in northern Wisconsin where I have a 45 year-old mobile home which will need to be removed. The water and septic are good. I would attach my RV black and grey water to the septic system and have a fresh water supply. A large garage is on the 2/3 acre piece of property for storage. During winter I would move the RV between Texas and Florida, perhaps owning land again in one of the two states. My questions are, “Are any RVers doing this or are there too many local laws/ordinances prohibiting short-term RV residences on private land? Are RVs only allowed in RV parks for long term occupancies? Is anyone doing this sort of RVing?”

Anyone in Quartzsite

Just curious if any of the regular contributors to this forum are in or will be visiting Quartzsite during January or February. I’m going to discover the area and wanted to meet anyone who might be there at the same time.

What do you like and why?

We’ve been seriously looking at motorhomes for several years and are poised to buy pre-owned in the next few months. Would like to hear what and why people purchased rigs they now own and how satisfied/dissatisfied they are. We are interested in 33′ - 35′.

Tweak your furnace for the desired temperature

On particularly cold nights, most RVers who are boondocking set the thermostat on the furnace to maintain enough temperature to keep the chill out of the air and make sure the water system doesn’t freeze. If the furnace doesn’t cycle on and off when you expect, you can tweak the thermostat. Here’s how.

A neat way to care for your pet away from the RV

Many fulltimers have pets, and sometimes they create a mini dilemma. Say you’ve got a long day planned away from the RV at some outdoor event where lots of people will gather. You don’t want to bring the pet with you on a leash lest it get stepped on or bite someone. Yet, neither do you want to leave the pet in the hot RV or car or at an expensive day care kennel. What to do? Here’s the solution.
