RVers May Benefit From Economic Stim Package
Would you like to buy a new motorhome or tow vehicle for your trailer? The economic stimulus package that rolled out of the halls of Congress may make it more attractive. According to kipplingers.com, publishers of economic news, the stimulus package works at getting more moolah rolling for motor vehicle manufacturers.
Here’s the deal: Buy a new motorhome, new [toad] car, new “light” truck, take the amount of sales tax paid as a tax deduction. Even for those who don’t itemize deductions, the deduction is available. HOWEVER (always the fine print), the deduction is only for the amount of sales (or excise) tax paid on the first $49,000 of the vehicle. And one more detail: If you’re in the upper-income part of the atmosphere, the deduction gets smaller if your income is over $125,000 (and you’re a single filer) or $250,000 (for married filing jointly), and completely vanishes when income reaches $135,000 and $260,000 respectively.
